De acuerdo con estudio de la Universidad Nacional de 2005, en Envigado se registran 35 humedales en zonas rurales como Perico y Pantanillo, pero sin caracterización, de estos solo uno está declarado como suelo de protección desde 2011, gracias a la presión social por parte de El Comité Eco Humedales.
El humedal El Trianón es un espejo de agua que hace parte del cerro tutelar (corredor biológico) ubicado en la zona 7. Este ecosistema y los demás deben ser protegidos y declarados por las autoridades para que su conservación pueda ser efectiva y no sean vulnerados con agentes externos que cada día los amenazan e intervienen.
Esto es importante ya que en el Municipio y en todo el país se está o van a realizar las modificaciones a los planes de ordenamiento territorial. Estos deben ser una construcción colectiva entre comunidad, autoridades y la academia. Aunar esfuerzos de esta manera garantiza el éxito del desarrollo local, si no puede ser un factor determinante para la destrucción del sistema de planeación local y generar deterioro del tejido socio-ambiental.
En definitiva, si queremos preservar los ecosistemas estratégicos que tanto nos han beneficiado con servicios ambientales, debemos realizar procesos de fortalecimiento local que sirvan como protectores ambientales y no para beneficiar la construcción desmedida, la movilidad para los vehículos motorizados, la apertura de minas y demás desarrollos que afecten el entorno natural y social.
